Hilton Adelaide Celebrates Thirty Five Years
November 05, 2017
ADELAIDE, South Australia - Hilton Adelaide celebrates thirty five years of five star hospitality in South Australia!
Monday, Oct. 18, 1982 saw the much-anticipated opening of Hilton International Adelaide (now known simply, as Hilton Adelaide) and coincided with the opening of the international terminal at Adelaide Airport, heralding the start of international tourism into Adelaide and putting the city on the international tourist map.
When it first opened, the hotel's meeting and event facilities had bookings up to four years in advance, with the first ballroom function being a seminar and product launch for Con-Stan Industries. Today, the hotel welcomes delegates attending conferences from all over the world. The award-winning conference facilities enjoyed the benefit of a $4.5 million renovation in 2004, and subsequent regular upgrades since.
During the 1980's, Hilton was revered as the home of cabaret and bought big name stars to Adelaide. Today, we continue to look after our visiting stars from all corners of the globe.
Hilton Adelaide has always, and continues to support local community groups, charities and fundraising events in and around South Australia. Hilton Adelaide Team Members work with Kick Start for Kids, Hutt Street Centre and AusHarvest. For many years Hilton Adelaide has worked with the Smith Family, Australian Children's Charity providing insights, training and entry to participants into the hospitality industry and is a member of the Governors Aboriginal Employment Industry Program.
An avid supporter of the state's major events and active sponsor of some of the biggest in Adelaide, including Tour Down Under, WOMAD, Polo in the City, Advertiser Foundation and many more, Hilton Adelaide has always championed our states intrepid festival and eventing spirit.
"Hilton has committed to the ongoing employment and workforce of South Australians through apprenticeships, and training," said Peer Norsell, general manager, Hilton Adelaide. "We are very proud of our traineeship and employment program at Hilton Adelaide. We have developed, supported and mentored some of the best hospitality, catering, chefs and back of house staff in Hilton".
Norsell added, "Over the past thirty-five years, Hilton Adelaide has been delivering international five-star service to the people of South Australia as well as being an integral part of the tourism industry for the state. You would be hard pressed to find anyone in South Australia who does not have their own special memory or story about the hotel".
